New LynxOS 5.0 BSP for Curtiss-Wright Controls’ SVME/DMV-184 SBC; companies expand partnership with enhanced support/communications
SAN JOSÉ, Calif. , Oct. 26, 2009—LynuxWorks™, Inc., a world leader in embedded security software, today announced it has expanded its product support and partnership with Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing, a leading designer and manufacturer of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) VME, VPX and CompactPCI products for the rugged deployed aerospace and defense market.
In addition to announcing the availability of a new LynxOS 5.0 RTOS (real-time operating system) board support package (BSP) for use with Curtiss-Wright Controls’ SVME/DMV-184 single-board computer (SBC), the two companies also made public an agreement to expand the sharing of information and the creation of development kits and tools. The announcements are expected to help system integrators using LynxOS and Curtiss-Wright Controls SBCs design and deploy systems faster and more effectively.
“LynuxWorks is doing more than tightening our relationship with Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing—we’re enhancing the support both our companies can give to our customers,” said Robert Day, LynuxWorks vice president of marketing. “We’re also offering a clear migration and support path for current Curtiss-Wright Controls customers who are looking at newer hardware options based on the powerful e600 core, such as Curtiss-Wright Controls VME- or VPX-based boards.”
As part of the new partnership agreement, the two companies will be able to better support their customers with coordinated, in-depth advanced knowledge and assistance. System designers using Curtiss-Wright Controls hardware will receive improved access to LynuxWorks BSPs, source code, and device-driver sets. The agreement is also intended to improve communication between the two companies, to benefit customer support, for example, by providing increased information on hardware and software designs. Both companies can also evolve their products to match the comparable benefits and strengths of their partner’s offerings, guaranteeing optimal integration, efficiency, and operation for customers using the combined platform.
“This partnership makes sense for us and for our customers, especially those with significant investment in Power® Architecture hardware,” said Lynn Patterson, vice president and general manager of Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing. “One of the reasons that customers choose our boards is because of their stringent requirements for high performance and reliability. Every step that we can take to ensure we deliver on that promise benefits our customers, and this partnership is definitely a step in the right direction.”
