SAN JOSÉ—March 12, 2012—LynuxWorks™, Inc., the first and only embedded operating system vendor to receive Advisory Circular AC 20-148 approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for reusable software components (RSC), has received its second RSC approval for the LynxOS-178 product family. Today, with RSC approval, the LynxOS-178 Version 2.2.2 RTOS (real-time operating system) can be more extensively used by avionics systems integrators and embedded developers for the operating system portion of the safety-critical software code and supporting DO-178B/C artifacts for reuse in other system designs with other software components without the need for full recertification. "More than ever, software component use in safety-critical software for embedded military applications or avionics flight systems is critical," said Stephen Balacco, director, Embedded Software and Tools Practice, VDC Research Group, Inc. "With RSC approval, the software components identified as reusable are already approved by the FAA." The OS provider chooses software components that are target hardware-independent, such as the kernel and libraries, which can constitute as much as 65% of the code. From that perspective, RSC approval provides system integrators and developers a tremendous head [...]

LynuxWorks and Wave Demonstrate First Use of Multi-Banded Self-Encrypting Drive Combined with Secure Virtualization

2011-09-20T12:30:00+00:00

Secure endpoint has encrypted disk bands linked to different LynxSecure domains for strong data security on a single platform ORLANDO, FL, NSA Trusted Computing Conference—September 20, 2011—LynuxWorks™, Inc. today announced its continued collaboration with Wave Systems Corporation (NASDAQ:WAVX) on the use of a self-encrypting drive (SEDs) with the LynxSecure separation kernel and hypervisor for running multiple operating systems simultaneously on a single endpoint. The demonstration links individual encrypted disk bands to different secure virtual domains provided by LynxSecure, running on a single device. The demonstration takes place this week In the LynuxWorks booth (#310) at the 2nd Annual National Security Agency's (NSA) Trusted Computing Conference and Exposition (Orlando, FL, September 20-22). As the use of portable and mobile endpoints become more common in the business environment, the risk of data compromise through either physical or cyber theft grows. New mechanisms are required to protect sensitive information while the endpoint is either 'at rest' or 'on line' away from the company premises. The collaborative use of SEDs and secure virtualization on an endpoint offers this protection. SEDs are a better option than traditional [...]
