LynuxWorks and Themis Demonstrate Rugged, Secure Server Solutions at MILCOM 2011

2011-11-09T12:28:01+00:00

LynxSecure highly secure virtualization technology and CoolShell blade server provide a versatile platform for military applications BALTIMORE, MD, MILCOM—November 9, 2011—LynuxWorks™, Inc., a world leader in the secure virtualization market, and Themis Computer, a leading global supplier of ruggedized, commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) board and system-level products for military applications, team to demonstrate a new rugged, high-performance multilevel secure solution at MILCOM 2011. The companies will showcase LynuxWorks' LynxSecure secure separation kernel and embedded hypervisor running on Themis' CoolShell blade servers. Nowhere are the requirements for secure high-performance computing more dramatic than the battlefield. The military requires transportable, high-performance, secure computing platforms optimized for field deployment—where difficult conditions are the norm. This means secure, compact, lightweight, and highly available computing that is easy to use. The ideal solution must be scalable and designed to maximize virtual environments. Because back-up windows are short and bandwidth is limited, access to data must be fast, secure, and reliable. LynxSecure's highly secure virtualization solution utilizes CoolShell's hardware-virtualization technology and multiple processor cores to provide one of the most advanced multilevel secure platforms available in military and aerospace systems [...]

LynuxWorks and Wave Demonstrate First Use of Multi-Banded Self-Encrypting Drive Combined with Secure Virtualization

2011-09-20T12:30:00+00:00

Secure endpoint has encrypted disk bands linked to different LynxSecure domains for strong data security on a single platform ORLANDO, FL, NSA Trusted Computing Conference—September 20, 2011—LynuxWorks™, Inc. today announced its continued collaboration with Wave Systems Corporation (NASDAQ:WAVX) on the use of a self-encrypting drive (SEDs) with the LynxSecure separation kernel and hypervisor for running multiple operating systems simultaneously on a single endpoint. The demonstration links individual encrypted disk bands to different secure virtual domains provided by LynxSecure, running on a single device. The demonstration takes place this week In the LynuxWorks booth (#310) at the 2nd Annual National Security Agency's (NSA) Trusted Computing Conference and Exposition (Orlando, FL, September 20-22). As the use of portable and mobile endpoints become more common in the business environment, the risk of data compromise through either physical or cyber theft grows. New mechanisms are required to protect sensitive information while the endpoint is either 'at rest' or 'on line' away from the company premises. The collaborative use of SEDs and secure virtualization on an endpoint offers this protection. SEDs are a better option than traditional [...]

Building in RTOS Support for Safety- & Security-Critical Systems

2011-08-27T12:36:41+00:00

Safety- and security-critical systems are both focused on building technology to protect peoples’ lives. But despite the similar critical nature of the two systems, they are designed to function in very different worlds.  With different environmental assumptions, different problem spaces, and different governing legislation, each system has its own unique requirements when it comes to selecting the foundations for the technology, such as platform operating systems. Safety- and security-critical systems are by no means mutually exclusive, but when building critical systems it is essential to have the right tool for the job. There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all solution for both realms without sacrificing some aspect of safety or security. Therefore, LynuxWorks offers two independent RTOS products: LynxOS-178 for safety-critical platforms and LynxSecure for security-critical platforms. LynxOS-178 for Safety-critical Systems The primary objective for safety-critical systems is to maintain operation. Whether in avionics, medical, automotive, or SCADA systems, the slightest flaw can ripple down to a system failure and loss of life. Any technology integrated into these systems must be highly scrutinized to ensure system reliability is preserved. While robustness [...]

New platform allows for consolidation of existing servers while maintaining secure separation of virtualized domains SAN DIEGO, CA and NDIA Navy Gold Coast Conference—August 19, 2011— Fritz Technologies Corporation has completed work for the Department of Defense (DoD) and U.S. intelligence community to develop a trusted computing solution using state-of-the-art, commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) LynxSecure software from LynuxWorks™, Inc. This Multiple Independent Levels of Security (MILS) solution allows access to unclassified, secret and top-secret applications and data to be maintained in separate domains on a single server, or workstation, and supports strictly controlled sharing between those domains. Fritz designed and delivered the prototype system that demonstrates the consolidation of multiple physical servers supporting different classification levels into a single server (or multiple server farms into a single farm), while maintaining strict separation between security domains. "Bobbi-Michelle Wehrfritz, Fritz Technologies CEO, noted that "Fritz Technologies leveraged its expertise with separation kernels and virtualization to create this high-assurance solution. We developed and delivered a prototype platform based on LynxSecure that also takes advantage of the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) in a server environment. We are very [...]
